Ce documentaire présente les natifs de Tanna, une île isolée du Pacifique Sud, située dans l’archipel du Vanuatu. Ils prient un prophète américain, John Frum. Selon eux, John Frum est un pilote américain réfugié aux USA après la fin de la guerre du Pacifique. Il doit revenir dans l’île de Tanna avec la richesse des USA qu’ils nomment le Cargo. Tous attendent son retour en priant devant le drapeau américain. Un homme, Isaac le dernier, prétend être son fils, c’est le chef de ce Cargo Cult. Il a organisé une armée de GI pour le retour du prophète.
A documentary showing the natives of Tanna, an isolated island in the Vanuatu archipelago in the South Pacific. They pray to John Frum, an American prophet. They say that John Frum was an American pilot who went back to the USA after the end of the war in the Pacific. He is to return to Tanna with the wealth of the USA. They call this “The Cargo”. They all await his return and pray before the Stars and Stripes. One man, Isaac the Last, claims to be Frum’s son and is the head of the Cargo Cult. He has organised an army of GIs for the return of the prophet.
