Le terrain d’investigation de Gérard Tavakilian, entomologiste à l’IRD et passionné par les longicornes se trouve en Guyane Française. Nous le suivons dans la forêt à la recherche de ces insectes aux longues antennes, qui se nourrissent d’arbres vivants et de bois mort. Ils abondent dans cette région de l’Amazonie et vivent cachés sous les feuilles des arbres, sous les troncs, sous les branches, à l’abri des regards. Ils mesurent de quelques millimètres jusqu’à dix-sept centimètres de long pour le Titan, le plus gros longicorne de la planète !
The field of investigation of Gérard Tavakilian, an IRD entomologist with a passion for longhorn beetles is in French Guiana. The camera follows him in the forest as he searches for these insects with long antennae and that feed on living trees and dead wood. They are plentiful in this part of Amazonia and live hidden under the leaves of trees and beneath trunks and branches. They vary in length from a few millimetres to the 17-centimetre Titanlonghorn, the largest longhorn beetle in the world!
