L’Indonésie, c’est Bornéo Kalimantan, Sumatra et Irian Jaya, trois des dernières grandes jungles de la planète peuplées des fiers Dayaks et des farouches Papous. L’Indonésie, c’est aussi le lieu idéal de l’industrie du bois. Premier producteur de contre-plaqués tropicaux, exportateur sans rival de teck, d’ébène et de rotin, le pays défriche sans se soucier de la survie des peuples de la forêt. Cependant, des hommes ont mis en évidence les bienfaits de l’agro-foresterie, moins stérilisante pour l’environnement. On préserve désormais la biodiversité en cultivant massivement des fruits et légumes, des plantes médicinales et des arbres aux bois semi-précieux.

Indonesia is also an ideal place for the timber industry. The leading producer of tropical plywood, an unrivalled exporter of teak, ebony and rattan, the country is felling its forests without a care for the survival of the forest peoples. However, the benefits of agroforestry have been shown; it has less of a sterilising effect on the environment. Biodiversity is now conserved by the massive cultivation of fruits and vegetables, medicinal plants and trees giving semi-precious timber.
