Secrets des plantes, secrets de la mer protégés dans le mystère des profondeurs, les principes actifs des substances naturelles ont souvent des vertus médicales. Le champ d’investigation des chimistes s’étend jusqu’à la Nouvelle Calédonie, région à la flore et à la faune terrestres et sous-marines particulièrement originales. C’est ainsi que l’analyse d’un arbuste à fleurs blanches a permis la mise au point d’un antitumoral utilisé en chimiothérapie. De même en explorant le lagon, les scientifiques ont déjà mis en évidence les activités biologiques de certaines espèces. De nouveaux stimulants cardiaques, anti-inflammatoires ou antitumoraux sont peut-être pour demain.

Research areas explored by chemists go as far as New Caledonia, country where land or underwater plants and animals, are from this point of view, particularly interesting. The exploration of the New Caledonian lagoon, leads the scientists to show the obvious biological activities of a certain number of species. Through this research field, the production of new cardiac stimulants, anti-inflammation and antitumefaction substances are probably already in progress.
