En juillet 1998, au Mali, une expédition ethno-astronomique a réuni l’ethnologue Germaine Dieterlen, le cinéaste-ethnologue Jean Rouch et l’astrophysicien Jean-Marc Bonnet-Bidaud sur la falaise de Bandiagara en pays dogon. En leur compagnie, nous observons le lever héliaque de l’étoile Sirius et tentons de comprendre les remarquables connaissances des dogons sur l’étoile la plus brillante du ciel.
An ethno-astronomic expedition consisting of the ethnologist Germaine Dieterlen, the film-maker and ethnologist Jean Rouch and the astrophysicist Jean-Marc Bonnet-Bidaud assembled on Bandiagara cliff in dogon country (Mali) in July 1998. In their company, we observe the heliacal rising of Sirius and try to understand the remarkable knowledge of the dogons of the brightest star in the sky.
